unicoUNICO Membership Drive:

Keystone Chapter UNICO will be having a March Madness Membership Drive on March 23 at Arcaro and Genell’s, Old Forge.

There will be various Italian specialties throughout the evening as well as entertainment by Frank Gervasi and speaker Joe Morinelli from Radio Voice Italia from Philadelphia. Anyone who would like to join the chapter and are of Italian descent or married to one, please come out and enjoy a great evening. Lenten Fish Dinner:

A Lenten baked haddock fish dinner will be held on Friday, April 7, from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Regal Room, Olyphant, sponsored by SS. Cyril & Methodius Ukrainian Catholic Church, Olyphant. The sit-down or take-out menu includes baked haddock, potato, vegetable, cole slaw, roll and dessert. For reservation, call (570) 3834-9487. The deadline for pre-sold tickets is Monday, April 3. A limited amount of dinners will be available at the door for $15.

MFA Open House at Marywood:

marywoodMarywood University’s master of fine arts program for designers and illustrators, “Get Your Master’s with the Masters,” will hold an open house on Friday, April 21,, from 9 a.m. – 3 p.m., in the Shields Center for Visual Arts, Room 136. This event is free and open to the public. Attendees will have the opportunity to meet with faculty, take a tour of the facility, and attend talks given by industry leaders.

The “Get Your Master’s with the Masters” MFA program at Marywood University is a low-residency program designed specifically for working professionals: art directors, graphic designers, illustrators, educators, and other artists who have to budget their time and resources carefully, while continuing their full-time occupations.

Comedian Appearance at Lackawanna College:

Community Concerts at Lackawanna College will add veteran comedian Kathleen Madigan to the 89th season line up for a one-night performance on Friday, March 10, at 8 p.m. (doors at 7:30 p.m.). Adult tickets are $36 and $40. The appearance is part of the Kathleen Madigan: Bothering Jesus Tour.

The Detroit Free Press describes Madigan as “the funniest woman doing stand-up right now, but no gender qualifier is necessary. “ Over Madigan’s 25-year career, she has performed on nearly every late night show including Leno, Letterman, Conan, Ferguson and most recently on the The Nightly Show with Larry Wilmore and Ron White’s Salute To The Troops on CMT. In 2014, Madigan was nominated for an American Comedy Award for Best Concert Comic. Tickets for Kathleen Madigan and the full Community Concerts 2016-17 season are on sale now. Annual C.A.S.U.A.L. Day:

nrcilogoTimothy J. Farrell, MD was recently named chair for the Northeast Regional Cancer Institute’s 14th Annual C.A.S.U.A.L. (Colon cancer Awareness Saves Unlimited Adult Lives) Day. Dr. Farrell is a surgeon for Geisinger Community Medical Center and  an associate professor of surgery at Geisinger Commonwealth School of Medicine.

C.A.S.U.A.L. Day, set for Thursday, March 30, is a dress down day to raise awareness for colorectal cancer in Northeast Pennsylvania.  On this day, participants dress “casual” while wearing a specially designed pin and/or t-shirt. The focus of this awareness campaign is to have a casual conversation about colon cancer. All proceeds from the event stay in NEPA and go towards the Cancer Institute efforts to raise awareness and support colorectal cancer screenings for low income, un/underinsured individuals through their Patient Navigation Program.

Clam Chowder and Bread Sale:

Members of the Dunmore Presbyterian Church will hold a Manhattan clam chowder and bread sale on Friday, March 10. No sit-in meals, take outs only. A donation of $10.00 includes a quart of Manhattan style clam chowder and a small load of freshly baked bread.

Meals can be picked up between 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. at the church on 137 Chestnut Street. To place orders in advance, please call (570)343-6807
