DHS Class of 1971 Reunion
Dunmore High School Class of 1971 will host its 45th class reunion on Aug. 13 at La Buona Vita, Dunmore. The Steamtown National Historic Site of Scranton, PA will be running the Historical Diesel Train “Queen City Special” on Saturday, July 9, to Olyphant . This event will coincide with Olyphant Queen City Nights (off of Lackawanna Ave. and Willow Street/ Nestor Chylak St.) The train will leave Scranton at 1:30 p.m. and arrive at the Olyphant Queen City Train Station at approximately 2:15 p.m., then leaving from Olyphant at 5 p.m. to return to Scranton by approximately 6 o’clock.
In Olyphant, there will be tours of local churches, information about famous Olyphant residents, and a casual walk pointing out town landmarks. A late lunch will also be available from food vendors or at various restaurants in town.

Adult tickets (ages 16-61) are $24; Senior tickets (ages 62+) $22, and Child tickets (ages 6-15) $17. Children to age five are free. Ticket required. Excursions reservations must be pre-paid and are non-refundable.
Sacred Heart Flea Market
Sacred Heart of Jesus Parish, Peckville, will be holding its annual Summer Flea & Food Fest on August 13-15 in the air-conditioned parish auditorium. Please come and enjoy the treasure hunt along with delicious homemade ethnic foods from the concession stand. Hours are Saturday, 8am-6pm; Sunday and Monday, 8am-4pm. A take-out pasta & meatball dinner will be served on Sunday from 11am to 3pm. Marywood Transfer Days
Marywood University will conduct on-campus Transfer Day programs for college students or former college students considering transferring to Marywood University. In a single visit on Tuesday, July 19, Wednesday, Aug. 3, and Tuesday, Aug. 16, between 2 and 6 p.m., visitors can complete an application for admission, discuss financial aid and scholarship options, and transfer credits. Transfer Day will be held at the Office of University Admissions in the Liberal Arts Center, on the University’s campus. Fall semester classes begin on Wednesday, Aug. 24, 2016. Wine in the Woods
Tickets are on sale now for a Wine in the Woods Event on Saturday, Aug. 6. The wine-tasting event will be held at the Elmhurst Roaring Brook Volunteer Fire Company Picnic Grounds from 3 to 8 p.m. Advance ticket price is $15 and day of the event is $20. Designated driver tickets are $5. Everyone attending must be at least 21 years of age. There will be lite fare for purchase, live entertainment, and a bonfire.
Fire House Dedication
Elmhurst-Roaring Brook Fire Company will host an open house at its new firehouse located at 436 Blue Shutters Road, Elmhurst, (next to St. Eulalia’s Church) on Sunday, July 17, from 2 to 5 p.m. The public is invited.
Pocono Bible Camp
Pocono Mountain Bible Conference, located in the beautiful Pocono Mountains, will be holding its summer camp sessions thoughout the summer months, broken down by age groups. The camp offers fun and games, swimming, bonfires, bible study, lasting friendships and more. Registration is open.
The schedule is as follows. Junior, 8 to 10 years old, Week 2: July 31-Aug 6; Intermediate, 11 to 13 years old, Week 1, July 3-9; Week 2, Aug. 7-13; Youth, 14 to 18 years old, Week 1, July 10-16; Week 2, July 24-30.
Cost is $200 per week, and first time campers camp for free. There is a discount structure for sibling campers. PMBC is a Bible based camp in the heart of the Pocono Mountains that hosts children in the summer months and hosts retreats fall through spring. PMBC is open to all children, 8-18 regardless of race, sex, religious affiliation. Scholarships are available.

Swimming Pools/Lakes: OPEN
The lakes and pool at Lackawanna County’s parks officially opened on Friday, June 24. All of the locations are staffed with lifeguards. The swimming areas are open Monday through Sunday from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Locations include McDade Pool, Scranton; Aylesworth Lake, Archbald; Merli-Sarnoski Lake, Carbondale, and Covington Lake, Covington Township off Route 307. The pool and lakes will remain open through mid-August.
